Please help... Child Tax Credit area... Why Turbo Tax only put an X in one of my two boxes??
I have two children that live with me that I'm claimimg.
On my Federal in the Child Tax Credit area it only put an X in one of my two children's tax credit boxes?
But on my AZ State form it put a X in both of my children's tax credit boxes.
Can someone explain why it isn't checking an X in both of my kids boxes on federal??
I'm worried I'm missing out on a tax credit.

For the Federal one of the requirements to receive Child Tax Credit is that for 2019 your child cannot be older than 16. Once they turn 17 they no longer qualify for Child Tax Credit.
Arizona has different rules than the Federal about their Child Tax Credit. Arizona gives you $100 credit if your child is under 17 and $25 credit if your child is over 17.

Thank you,
My son was 15 for almost the entire year. he turned 16 on 12/12/2019. Would he still be able to be counted?
Yes. Go back to Personal Info and double check your entries.
The Child Tax Credit (CTC) is designed to give an income boost to the parents or guardians of children and other dependents. It only applies to dependents who are younger than 17.
Thank you,
I have gone back through all the steps on both of my children. All of the answers are the same. It puts both of them down as dependence, but still only one for the Child tax Credit.
I went to the Child tax Credit and clicked on
"Why doesn't Corbin Donald count for the Child Tax Credit?"
But the answer it gave didn't tell me why.
"Because he had another disqualifying situation, Corbin Donald doesn't count for the Child Tax Credit."
But my other child does qualify?
Please help. I cant figure out what is wrong that it won't put both of my children down for the Child Tax Credit.
Sometimes it helps if you just delete the dependent then re-enter him fresh. Try that.
The other common issue with the Child Tax Credit is that the credit is non-refundable. That means once your tax is reduced to zero the child tax credit no longer applies. However, if the dependent otherwise qualifies for the child tax credit, then the "additional child tax credit" will kick in. The "additional child tax credit" is refundable. That means even after your tax is reduced to zero you can get that credit.
Follow these steps to see what may be happening.
1. Click "Tax Tools" at bottom of left hand menu
2. Click "Tools"
3. Click "View Tax Summary" in middle of screen
4. Click "Preview My 1040" in the left hand menu
5. Look at lines 13a and 18b
6. Those should total $4000
Hello DMarkM1,
I checked what you said:
13a shows $2000
18b shows blank
Also on the page in the Dependents box 4
my son still does not have a CHECK in the box but my daughter does have a CHECK in the box?
I do not believe my tax is reduced to Zero because I owe a small amount still on federal.
Thank you for your help!
I understand. At this point I suggest once again checking all the entries for the dependent child. Check the birthdate, verify indication that he lived with you at least half the year, in the US, and the child did NOT provide more than half their own support.
