Monthly Deductions/Contributions Tax Question

I retired from a major university a few years ago. I have monthly deductions/contributions deducted from my retirement check for Legal MBR Prem, Med ER Prem, and Den ER Prem. Can I claim these deductions yearly? If so, can go go back to previous years and claim these deductions on an amended tax document? I am a licensed tax preparer.

Monthly Deductions/Contributions Tax Question

You can deduct the medical and dental, but not the legal.  You may not have enough to exceed the standard deduction, so there may be no advantage in going back and amending an older return.

ER Prem?  You are paying the employer part?  Check with the retirement plan.   Sometimes they take the Premiums out pretax.   So they are not deductible.

Monthly Deductions/Contributions Tax Question

Thank you for responding to my question. I'm not sure if the employer pays. I sent an email to the employers' HR Department, but I haven't heard back from them yet. Do you know if "MED ER PREM" AND "DEN ER PREM", are usually paid by the employer? On the pay stub items are listed above are under the Deductions/Contributions column; and under Income/Reimbursements column "Part B REIMB" is listed which is a lesser amount that was reimbursement to me.
