Amend your 2019 return. Search for Sale of home and jump to the screen that says sale of main home. Follow the interview questions.
Always back up and print a copy of your original return before you do any amend.
if you e-filed or only mailed the required forms then the worksheet was not sent. In any case, the worksheet is not an official tax form. the IRS probably got a 1099-S that informed them of the sale that did not show up on Form 8949 and Schedule D (the totals from Form 8949 transfer to schedule D). you'll need to send them these two items (form 8949 should show $0 in column h - gain/loss. a copy of the home sale worksheet is not required. to force the home sale to show up on Form 8949 you may need to check the box for the question "if you received Form 1099-S for this sale of your home or you want to report this sale on your return even when not required check here"
Instead of an amended return, I suspect (but don't know for sure) that a reply letter, to the IRS, explaining why you qualify for the home sale exclusion might suffice. I would attach a copy of the TurboTax home sale work sheet.
Responding with a copy of the home worksheet and an explanation that you failed to report it on the Sch D since you did not mark the 1099-S box in the program will probably be sufficient however using the amendment program to produce an 8949 & Sch D to attach to the reply would also be correct ... watch for this screen ...
