How to report my milage back and forth to office and client on my w2?

Please be more specific.

your home and office you get no deduction for that transportation.  you only get the cost that is documented and in writing to the client.  That would be either for actual or for a set mileage amount. Most would go with the set standard mileage rate tables the IRS provides.  TT will do this calculation for you.

Depending on if this is for rentals or self employment, in TT interview will guide you through the interview and ask you about the type of vehicle to decide if you would choose to use the standard mileage rate or actual costs incurred. You will also need toll receipts, parking receipts, etc.  For business the standard rate is 56  cents per mile for business miles driven, 16 cents per mile driven for medical* or moving purposes,  14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations.

I hope this was helpful.

**I don't work for TT. Just trying to help. All the best.

Not sure why you are mentioning a W-2.   Are you a W-2 employee or are you self-employed?  Your question was posted from online Self-Employed.   If you are a W-2 employee then you cannot deduct mileage or any other job-related expenses on a federal return, per the tax laws that changed for 2018 and beyond.

If you are self-employed, then you cannot enter anything for commuting to or from work, but if you are driving to meet clients, etc. during your work day, you enter those expenses on your Schedule C.

Q. How to report my mileage back and forth to office and client on my w2?

A.  You don't report it on your tax return.  Nothing is deductible.

Look to your employer for reimbursement.  If set up properly (an "accountable plan"), you employer can get a deduction and the reimbursement is tax free to you.

All work related expenses related to a W-2 job are no longer deductible 2018-2026. Commuting expenses have never been deductible.
