Same issue, wound up reporting no donations and paying an extra small amount in tax. What a waste of time -- not allowing me to file with the right amount of my contributions to charity. I am not using turbo tax next year. My time is money, so I just gave up and paid the $20-30 I should have saved.
Seriously screwed up software...what a joke. Customer service - hung up on after an hour hold time listening to 'please don't hang up your call is important to us' another joke. There have to be better products out there.
Is this fixed yet? I looked up IRS rules, which state that:
"Qualified cash contributions for 2020. If you make a qualified cash contribution for tax year 2020, your deduction for the cash contribution is limited to 100% of your adjusted gross income (AGI) minus your deduction for all other contributions. A qualified cash contribution must meet the following criteria. • It is a charitable contribution paid in cash or by check after December 31, 2019. • It is paid to an organization described earlier under First category of qualified organizations (50% limit organizations) (other than certain private foundations described in section 509(a)(3)). • The taxpayer elected to have this limitation apply to such contribution."
Why then does the TurboTax form keep asking me fill in a number under $300 for charitable contributions? How can I be sure that my actual contributions are being calculated correctly in this software? Do I now have to go see an accountant and stop using Turbo Tax?
OMG Jasmine I'm dealing with the same thing right now, I think?! I looked in my tax return and my charitable contributions or freaking ENORMOUS!!! IM TALKING MORE THAN $200k!!!!???? Wtf is THAT??? I did the whole final review and as it was about to print it & realized something is really wrong. And then I realized where it was & I'm like "I don't think I donate an entire house last year???!"🤔😡 I unfrickinbelievable, TurboTax!
They're probably tons of people that don't know what they're doing that filed with carryovers like this if this happened to me and you. I have to research this more. I need a disc like I need a hole in my head! I'm so pissed because now I have to go back and Trace all my carryovers through all the last 3 years to make sure that they carried over properly and at the correct amounts. Ugh! It would have been faster had I just written in my information the old-fashioned way!
Tried this in 2021 version and when I try the steps in the previous responses same error.
Same thing is happening again this year. Won’t let me have 300 in there, but also won’t let me have 0 in there 😡. I like how you have to pay for the software to file before it lets you in on this little reason that it won’t let you e-file.

The problem appears to be that a charitable donation was entered in the Deductions and Credits section of the program when you are only eligible for the Standard Deduction.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen
Click on Tools
Click on Delete a form
Scroll through the all the forms, schedules and worksheets listed and delete all the Charitable Organization forms listed.
When completed with removing forms click on Continue With My Return at the bottom of the list.
Click on Federal on the left side of the screen
Click on Deductions & Credits at the top of the screen
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Wrap up tax breaks
Continue through the screens. After the screen showing that you are getting the Standard Deduction the following screen is Charitable Cash Contributions under Cares Act. Enter $600 if filing Jointly or $300 for all other filing status'. The federal review and the Final Review should no longer show an error for the charitable donation.
That worked. Seems like it would be better to direct users to delete the itemized charitable contribution entries if it causes an error when filing with standard deduction.
It is simply not accepting any other number then 300. I went back, reduce my donations to 300 and it worked.

For the TurboTax desktop editions -
To remove the error I went into Forms mode and deleted the Charitable Organization Worksheet. Then on the Form 1040 Worksheet for Line 12b removed the $300 amount so Line 12b is now blank (empty).
Going back to Step-by-Step I completed the Deductions & Credits section without entering anything for a charitable donation. Continuing through the screens until landing on the screen labeled Charitable Cash Contributions under Cares Act, I entered $600. Continued through Final Review without error.

Same challenge to TTU Deluxe 2021. Taking standard deduction and Line 12b fills incorrectly by TT at $300. Filing jointly with wife. Cannot change $300 amount to $600. Please provide corrected update. Thank you.

Did you read the answer directly above your post of this thread? Do you follow the procedure based on the type of TurboTax program you are using?
Yes, just completed again and it worked. Thank you for your reply and help.
I have the same issue, I changed it to zero, to 150. Everything I could. I researched and researched and found no fix, prolly gonna use a different service this year after being a customer since 2005 or before.
None of these "work arounds" have worked. Still saying "unacceptable value."
