My 22 yo child filed his own tax return in 2020 as an independent. He was eligible (and received) a $1400 economic impact payment. In 2021, we are claiming our child as a dependent since his income decreased due to covid and he meets the criteria for a dependent. When we file his return as a dependent, how do we enter his economic impact payment? We don't get the same questions as we do for our own return. (We found the option on our return so we know we're looking in the right place.)
Thanks in advance!

Since he is being claimed as a dependent for 2021 those questions will not appear for his return. A person who is being claimed as a dependent is not eligible so the questions do not even appear. He does not have to pay it back if he received it last year. And...since you are claiming him for 2021, you will get it on your own return.
Thank you for replying! So my son doesn't enter that $1400 anywhere. Do we need to include his $1400 on our return?
Thanks.
Your son is filing as a dependent of another taxpayer. He will not be eligible for the $1,400 third stimulus check and the software will not award him the credit nor will it ask that he enter the $1,400 received.
On your tax return, you will report only the $2,800 third stimulus check amounts that you received. You will likely receive a $1,400 Recovery Rebate Credit for your dependent son.
