Rejected again, I’ve tried
1) zeroing out my contribution on CA,
2) leaving as is and resubmitting
lve been rejected now 3x
I’m livid at this point
Just got rejected again too. Going to try zeroing out. This is crazy.
Just got rejected for the third time this morning. I attempted a route that someone else explained a few pages back about going to the "other" section of adjustments under wages in the state return and entering Standard Deduction - Charitable CA and entering $300 into the subtractions section and hit continue. I literally don't even know what to do if it gets rejected for a fourth time. I figured calling TT would be pointless based on other replies on here. So I'm literally just refreshing this thread constantly hoping to see a solution from someone else's experience.
My online State Return was rejected three times, but I finally got it accepted yesterday. I posted (maybe a page or two back) about a potential fix. Look back and give it a shot
Good luck!
What is TT doing about this??? We want our money back so we can file with another provider that can actually provide the service...
@Oxf911 Your situation sounds different than mine. It sounds like your federal return was filed with an incorrect deduction for charitable contributions ($300). That's a problem by itself. My federal correctly shows the $250 I entered on line 12b.
I would enter that $250 under “Other” and label it appropriately, as a subtraction.
@ask123 Are you doing the online version?
@anigurophrat I'm using the online version and on Federal line 12b it says $200. Is that number supposed to match on the State taxes somewhere? Because I can't find it on the State anywhere.
Yes. I did online with TT, but looks like I cannot use online for the state.
@ask123 I went back and looked what your fix was and don't see the area on the State tax that I'm supposed to correct.
@JetfanThat's just it - it doesn't carry over into any particular line on the 540. The AGI listed on my 540 (line 13) is correct, it does not include the $250 donation listed on 1040 line 12b. If @Oxf911 is entering a subtraction, I assume that is showing up on 540 line 14, thus lowering the CA AGI. I don't see how that is correct. But then again, I'm not a tax expert which is why I chose to trust TurboTax to do this for me. Maybe next year I won't need to. 🙂
@Oxf911 Could you verify if your $300 is shown on CA 540 line 14, thus lowering your CA AGI?
Note the comment in https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/state-taxes/discussion/re-charitable-deduction-from-california-sta...
The charitable contribution deduction was not allowed in CA for the 2020 filing season. Unless that has changed for 2021, the deduction should not be made on CA. Is the problem that TT is NOT carrying it over? Would need to determine if CA is now allowing it.
@Jetfan I'm really not sure if I would consider it a "fix" at the moment, because it apparently worked for someone else, but I'm running out of options so I attempted something that worked for someone else. As of now my state is now pending. If you go a few pages back you can find the reply that someone else posted about the "other" section more in detail.
@ask123 It appears that on the State it's located first as Income and Adjustments. Then on next page all the way down on the bottom as Other Adjustments to Income. That sends you to the next page Enter Any Adjustments to Income. There's 3 columns for addition and subtraction and description. You add your total in the subtraction box and put down Standard Deduction - Charitable CA.
