I filed using for 8915-E last year this year I should be using 8915-F my question is since I chose to split this for 3 years so I re-enter the full 1099R from 2020 or do I only enter 1/3 of that?

I am trying to file my taxes with form 8915f. I follow through the questions it presents about a 2020 qualified distribution. However I don't believe it is actually taking a 1/3 portion of my distribution and applying it to to this years income. Am I missing something or is it working properly?

If you had a Covid-19 related distribution in 2020 and selected to spread the distribution over 3 years -
Answer No when asked if you received a Form 1099-R in 2021, if you did not receive the form
Answer Yes when asked if you took a disaster distribution
Answer Yes when asked if you took a Qualified 2020 Disaster Distribution
Check the box that this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020
2020 Form 8915E, line 4, column b - Enter a 0
If the 2020 distribution was from an account that was Not an IRA
2020 Form 8915E Line 9 - Enter 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution in both boxes for Line 9
If the 2020 distribution was from an IRA account
2020 Form 8915E Line 17 - Enter 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution in both boxes for Line 17
The 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution will be entered on the 2021 Form 1040 Line 4b if from an IRA or on Line 5b if from a retirement plan other than an IRA
I don't think it's working either. Actually, I did get it to "kinda" work the first time I answered the questions. But upon final "review" it asked me to input a Disaster name or number. I mistakenly did (not supposed to do that for Covid distribution). When I cleared out those questions and re-filled them out and then looked at my complete return again - the 8915F was GONE! The questions were still available for me to answer, but my 1/3 amount of my distribution was removed from my income, my return increased and the 8915F form was no longer a part of my return. I see that as of today 3/25 around noon, it's still not fixed. I was on with 3 different Online helpers last night and they couldn't figure it out either. I hope it's fixed ASAP.
@Eagleandfox68 Go back to the Retirement income section. Make sure you select NO when asked if you received a Form 1099-R if you did not receive a form for 2021.
Make sure that you entered the amount of the 2nd year of the distribution as follows -
If the 2020 distribution was from an account that was Not an IRA
2020 Form 8915E Line 9 - Enter 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution in both boxes for Line 9
If the 2020 distribution was from an IRA account
2020 Form 8915E Line 17 - Enter 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution in both boxes for Line 17
@DoninGA Thank you - I JUST saw on another thread to enter the 1/3 amount in BOTH boxes (for me it's box 9)...I went back and did that and it WORKED! I was only entering the amount in the bottom box. I was confused with the instructions. My refund went back down to what it should be (boo...LOL!) and my 8915F form now appears with my other tax forms. THANK YOU!!!
Did anyone get stuck with the FEMA code show back up? I removed 8915 and tried again but it still flagged it. Plus two people at turbot tax kept telling me to put Covid or Coronavirus as a name. Even though I told them it said not to do that. I don't want to submit this until I know I am doing this correctly.
The following steps should be used to enter your COVID qualifying distribution. Do Not enter a FEMA code because this doesn't have one. You must have your Form 8915-E from your 2020 tax return.

Thank you!! On the payment question is that saying did you pay that back into your 401K? I just feel it is not considering the tax already paid on that as I had federal taxes taken out or would that all have gone on there last year?
It is just asking if you repaid your retirement plan back for the distribution taken. If you repaid none of it, then the question isn't applicable to you.

I made a Covid distribution from my Roth in late 2020. It was reported on my 2020 return via TT Form 8915-E. I returned 75% of the funds distributed to the Roth in last October. Looking at the 2021 IRS Form 8915-F and instructions, it appears that line 25 of Form 8915-F should be filled out with the amount of funds that I returned. However, when I finish the TT return and go to forms, there is no Form 8915-F, but there is a form 8915E-T (Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Plan Distributions and Repayments Worksheet) that does not print when I tell TT that would like to print all forms that would be submitted to the IRS. The 8915E-T does have all of my distribution and repayment information and states that I should retain if for my records but does not generate the required 8915-F.
Will there be another update that gins up the submitted 8915-F for Roth-Covid data?
