Is there a $0 in that field???
IF SO
Whenever you see that "$0" (an actual zero)...then a "Supporting Details" sheet is attached to that entry, usually transferred in from last year, but after the actual $$ entries were stripped out.
Problem is that TTX reprogrammed that page such that the "Supporting Details" page doesn't pop up like it used to...so a couple ways to work around it.
Here's what I think is happening...and how to fix it.
1) In 2023 you added "Supporting Details" to each of those fields where you encounter a locked "$0"...probably to describe when & how paid it in some prior year.
2) Various Workarounds :
..2a) double-click in the field and the Supporting Details sheet pops up and you can either delete it (hit the big red "X"), and now make an entry...or you can use the SuppDetails worksheet to enter your $$
....OR...
..2b) Put your cursor in the box, and then go to the top menu on the screen and click on <Edit....then <<Add Supporting Details from the drop-down menu. IF the SuppDet box shows up you can either add your entry in there...or hit the Red "X" to delete the whole SuppDet worksheet and then make your normal entry.
....or...
2c) Put your cursor on the box....switch to Forms Mode...., and enter the payment directly in the worksheet.
You can also delete the Supporting Details sheet entirely (look for the REMOVE "X" when it pops up)..once that is done, you can make entries using the interview again..

and the are other places ..like Medical Expenses and Federal Quarterly Tax payments...where the same "$0" issue may pop up

There are a lot of property tax fields. Which specific one are you not able to change? If it's not the Supporting Details situation that SteamTrain described, what topic or section of TurboTax are you in? What is the exact heading or title on the screen? What is the exact description of the field? If you are using forms mode in the desktop TurboTax software, what specific form and line number are you trying to change.
Many of the amounts in TurboTax are calculated, or they flow from another form, schedule, or worksheet. In order to change a calculated amount you have to go to the source form, schedule, or worksheet that feeds into it. If you are using forms mode, try using Data Source or QuickZoom to see where the amount comes from.
Thanks for the info. It worked when I entered the info on the form.
....and...of course, this early season release (essentially beta, not ready for prime time) some forms are not ready in the interview, but apparently can be accessed in forms mode. do not trust that results are mostly accurate until late January or February (Many of us are eternal skeptics about these yearly-early releases)
I have used TTX for many years and have seen how some fields/forms become enabled and progress through to a mature status. Again, thanks for the information and advice!
Read through your solution - entering directly in the form worked. Thanks!
The 2024 turbotax for windows software will not allow me to edit the property tax nor the personal property tax fields. I spoke with John at [phone number removed] and he tried to help me for over an hour to no avail. We both concluded that there is a "glitch" in the 2024 software. I have used turbotax for many years and never had this problem. Please help! My phone number is [phone number removed].
None of this works as stated. One issue is how to put your cursor on a field and then click on something else!
I am simply trying to edit property taxes in the home and business program. I have previously entered some data but need to update it. I am not using a forms mode.
thanks for all the investigative work.
Here is an FAQ:
