Thanks so much dgb65 because I tried your solution of checking the second box (… you have carryovers and agree NOT to use them this year) and it worked!
I don’t think I would be able to use my foreign tax credit carryovers within a 10 year period anyhow. Thanks again!!
I'm not seeing this checkbox to NOT use carryovers. Where in the process is that?
I called TT support and spoke to someone live - they were not much better and told me "Wait till 3/31 and may be then the e-file will be supported".
Really?
Hi sjlocke, I found in the ‘Deductions & Credits’ section of TT, ‘I’ll Select what I want to work on’, and then ‘Foreign Taxes’ under ‘Estimated and Other Taxes Paid’ - I selected ‘Update’ and then it eventually took to me to that question.
Yeah, I can't get it to show up. I can choose deduction or take a credit, credit lets me report and or/review all 1099-DIVs and then I say I made the election for the simplified foreign tax limitation in a previous year, and then I'm done after a couple more questions.
I'm using the PC version and that option to check the box to not take the foreign tax credit carryover into 2021 is not available.
I'm tempted to zero out the carryover and see what happens... when you checked the option not to take the credit in 2021, did that number turn into a zero?
It is 3/3/22. Form 1116 is available but STILL cannot e-file Form 1116. Ridiculous.
SAME. This may be the final straw for me with TurboTax. So disgusted.
I went past that screen and then the question came up on a separate screen before leaving that TT section.
Just got this from Intuit...
Hello Todd,
This is Suzie with Intuit's Office of the President. We received your correspondence and I will be your personal advocate while we address your questions. This year, how the IRS is accepting the 1116 Schedule B is through a PDF. At this time, our engineers are working to update TurboTax to be able to e-file the information with PDF capabilities.
The estimated date for the update is March 31st.
So we have to agree to forfeit last year(s) carryover tax credits if we want to e-file? Not acceptable.
Thanks talltodd. Good to know that the CEO is paying attention and that they're at least working on it. If the IRS truly is only accepting a PDF of the form, then honestly I can see why that would cause Intuit some trouble - they're set up to do electronic or mail, not that. It's very disappointing we'll have to wait till March 31 but here's hoping they follow through.
It is march 3 . Form 1116 works but 1116 schedule B is not available . I must file by mail unless it becomes available. Guess I will wait a week to see if it becomes available. **bleep** foreigners!
Does anyone know if TurboTax plans to update e-filing Form 1116 with Schedule B? If so, when. If soon it may be possible to file for an extension and then e-file Form 1116 with Schedule B rather than hard copy file 2021 taxes.
ASCP, please read this thread. That question has been answered multiple times.
