Other Dependent tax Credit bug in TurboTax desktop version

Hi,

I found difficulty to get "other dependent Tax Credit" at "Deduction & Credits" ->"You and Your Family" session. I got it last year TT desktop version and this year I filled in same info of my ITIN dependents.

My guess it that it  is a bug after adding CTC payment questions.

I saw others suffered same issue in below link.

can someone from TT take a look or feedback to TT team? Or any workaround? Thanks,

Other Dependent tax Credit bug in TurboTax desktop version

Please tell us:

How many children you have.

How old they are.

Did each have an SS number or ITIN.

Where you (and they) lived for at least 6 months in 2021.

Did you receive any advance Child Credit payments in 2021?

I believe that East Guide is a feature of the product that you see the first time you enter this section (about child and other dependent credit). After the first time through, you may not see it again.

After this screen "Let's check for uncommon situations" you may see a screen that lists your children and whether or not they were eligible for which credit. Click on the links to see the explanations for whether or not they were good for the credit. Note that you might not see these links the second time through.

Also, please go through the IRS' Interactive Tax Assistant for the Child Tax Credit and Credit for Other Dependents. If this tool does not show that you are eligible for these credits, then TurboTax won't either.

Thank you! This tool ( IRS' Interactive Tax Assistant for the Child Tax Credit and Credit for Other Dependents) is very helpful to identify where my "other" dependent criteria is not satisfied. So it seems not to be a software issue at this point.

PS: I still don't see the "easy step" as I was not the first time into the session. I will pay attention to it next time

As @BillM223 mentions you will not likely see the "Easy Guide" on subsequent visits.  TurboTax should be applying the proper dependent credits based on your entries/answers.

If you are having trouble see the results you expect you can repost explaning your entries as @BillM223 mentions and what results you are seeing.

Additionally, you can view your form 1040 in the "Forms View" in desktop products or by using these steps in online products.

1. Login to TurboTax Online

2. Click on "Pick up where I left off"

3. Select "Tax Tools" from the menu on the left side of the screen

4. Next select "Tools" from the drop-down menu on the left side of the screen

5. Then click "View Tax Summary" from the pop-up menu

6. Lastly, click on "Preview My 1040" from the menu on the left side of the screen.

Other Dependent tax Credit bug in TurboTax desktop version

I was fined by IRS because my e-filed Turbotax did not include form 2441's part III. After some research, Part III is dealing with dependent care benefit in box 10 of W2. However I went back to the entire section and answer all the dependent care information and found no questions/pages that asked me about dependent care benefit at all. No wonder Part III is not included in the PDF nor e-file.

What's the solution? Is there a way to enter dependent care benefit into Turbotax to force Part III generation?

Part III of the form 2441  is only  generated when  an amount in box 10 of the W-2 is entered  ... did you miss that entry ?

After spending so much time to investigate, I finally found that the IMPORT of W-2 had a bug and not all fields where populated! I compared the W2 (automatic import from ADP) and my paper copy of W2 and was shocked to see so many fields were missing, and not just the box 10!!!!!

Is this a possible Intuit or ADP bug?

ALL IMPORTS must be reviewed carefully for accuracy BEFORE filing.  You are responsible for doing that when using a DIY program. Although ADP is usually reliable in coding things correctly for importing errors can happen and TT takes no responsibility for it.
