You only need the federal return Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) for the MN M1-PR form. A state return doesn't have to be filed. However, you will need the 2017 homeowner's property tax statement that won't come until next month to fill in M1-PR. As MN doesn't start sending out property tax refunds until July, you might as well wait until you file your taxes this April before sending it in. However, if you do request a 6 month extension to file your 1040, you still must send in the M1-PR by August 15th. If so, then do attach a statement that says your AGI in M1-PR will match the federal return you file on or before Oct. 15. (Claims are handled until Aug 2018.)
