Live in hotel

I’m in indiana and have been living in the same hotel room for over a year. Can I deduct it at all? Like the rent deduction for those renting a house or apartment?

no, you can't. people renting a house or apartment can't deduct the rent either.  at best if self-employed and there's a specific area used exclusively for the business they can deduct as home office expense a portion of the rent. an employee can't deduct any housing costs even if there's a specific area in the dwelling they use in the conduct of their employment

Possibly.  The Indiana IT-40 Individual Income Tax Booklet is below.

There are two requirements:

  • You paid rent on your principal place of residence, and
  • You rented a place that was subject to Indiana property tax.

You know whether this was the place where you have your true, fixed, permanent home and where you intended to return after being absent.

Depending upon the facility, it may not be obvious whether it is a not-for-profit or a for-profit endeavor.
