Does it say your entire refund is $6,000 of your child tax credit is $6,000?
If this is your entire refund, then it could be a combination of other credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and a refund of additional taxes withheld from your paycheck.
Are you claiming any other children on your return or just your niece?
If you are not claiming anyone else other than your niece and your father, then you should not see a dependent credit for more than $2,500. This would consist of $2,000 for your niece and $500 for your father.
If you are only claiming your father and your niece and you are seeing a $6,000 child tax credit, then you need to go back into the personal info section and be sure you did not enter her more than one time as a dependent.
Are you paying for child care? Did you get the child and dependent care credit? If so, this could be increasing your refund.
You may also want to go back through and look at your W2 entries to be sure you did not make any entry errors. This is a common reason people see refunds much higher than they are expecting.
