I'm entering the Child Tax Credit payment amount as shown on my letters for me and my wife. We got $1,500 in payments but following the instructions makes it $3,000?

I want to make sure I have the right amount entered for the Child Tax Credit payments. I followed what I was told to do and now it says my wife and I both got $1,500 for our kid when we only got $3,000. Did I do it wrong?

We got $1,500 total and we both got identical letters. I have since lost the letters and can't remember the amount on them. I logged into the IRS portal and it shows 6 payments of $750 for $1,500 total which I have confirmed with my bank account. So I should probably put $750 for each of us, yeah?

Yes, if the total received was $1,500 for the advance child tax credit then enter $750 for each of you.

Well if you each got 1500 that is 3,000 total.  Or you only got 1,500 combined (750 each)?  Did you each get the IRS letter 6419?

@wolfgangvolos

I assume you are saying that each spouse received $750 and each IRS letter 6419 reported $750?  Then

Taxpayer advance payments         $750

Spouse advance payments            $750

Total advance payments                $1,500

Child tax credit for one child          $3,000

Refundable amount line 28            $1,500

To view Federal 1040 line 28, go to Tax Tools / Tools / View Tax Summary / Preview my 1040.
