As long as you haven't submitted payment, deducted the TurboTax fee from your refund, or registered, you can erase your return and start from scratch in TurboTax Online. Please click here for instructions.
I already did that and again after all the inputs it still says i need to upgrade.... I sdeleted and started over just like the guode says and when i get to then end it says i need premium.... Maybe i just need to go with a different company?
Did you or anyone make a contribution to the HSA or did you take a distribution from the HSA in 2020? On your W-2, is there a code W in box 12? Did you receive and enter a 1099-SA? Did you have an excess contribution to your HSA in 2019 which carried over to 2020? (You would know this if line 49 in Part VII on form 5329 has a value in it). Did you receive a 5498-SA in the mail?
Basically, some entry on your return is causing TurboTax to flag the need for an upgrade. Do any of the above apply to you?
***NOTE***
It is possible to accidentally indicate to TurboTax that you had an HSA when perhaps you didn't. If you did not have an HSA, please do the following to remove all traces of HSA information from your return.
NOTE: if you see a question "What type of High Deductible Health Plan did you have any December 1, 2019?" (yes, 2019), be sure to answer "NONE".
1. make a copy of your W-2(s) (if you don't have the paper copies)
2. delete your W-2(s) (use the garbage can icon next to the W-2(s) on the Income screen
*** Desktop***
3. go to View (at the top), choose Forms, and select the desired form. Note the Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen.
*** Online ***
3. go to Tax Tools (on the left), and navigate to Tools->Delete a form
4. delete form(s) 1099-SA (if one), 8889-T, and 8889-S (if one)
5. go back and re-add your W-2(s), preferably adding them manually
6. continue with your return.
Also, if you made an HSA contribution for 2019 under the last-month rule, you are required to file 2020 From 8889 Part III and pay the additional tax for failing to remain an HSA-eligible individual throughout 2020.
