Sorry my first time doing taxes on my own so this may be a basic question.
My HSA bank has sent me two 1099-SA forms
1. with gross distribution 2412.12 with earnings on excess =0 and
2. with gross distribution 209.51 with earnings on excess = $1.23
They also sent me form 5498-SA with total HSA contributions made in 2020 for 2019 = $156.16
My w2 form shows $4652.18 (box 12 W)
For the year 2019 I received the excess contribution letter and the bank says they have forwarded my excess contribution for year 2019 to 2020.
My question is : how do I enter this data in turbo tax?

1. As I understand form 5498-SA is for my records only. Does TurboTax software needs me to upload it? NO ... those forms are informational only. The contributions are on the W-2 box 12 code W and are entered on the W-2 screen only.
2. I do need to upload both 1099-SA forms to TurboTax. Correct? The total distribution from both forms needs to be entered ... not sure you can import the forms and it is not needed ... just enter the total yourself.
The HSA is handled in 3 parts in the TT program :
First the contribution:

Next the limitations screen to confirm you are eligible to make the contributions:
Until you complete the HSA portion of the TurboTax interview to establish your eligibility for an HSA contribution, TurboTax will treat the amount entered on the W-2 form as an excess HSA contribution.

And lastly any distribution:
What exactly did you do?
To start with, you contributed $4652 by payroll deduction. Why is this considered excess?
Are your distributions regular distributions for medical expenses or a return of excess contributions? Which reason code is in box 3?
Where does the $156 come from, did you send the bank extra money by mistake? If the bank is taking your excess out and re-depositing it, it would be 2020 for 2020, not 2020 for 2019, that sounds very odd otherwise.
We need the whole story.
Thanks for the reply.
I called my HSA bank and here is what they told me.
I had excess contribution in 2018 ( adult son dropping off plan) which was $156.16 which the bank moved to 2019 So it shows up in the second 1099-SA form for 2019
I had excess contribution in 2019 as well (for my age my max contribution limit is $4500) so the bank moved that to 2020 but will show up for 2020 taxes.
So the bottom line is I have no excess contribution for 2019 .
So this leaves me with 2 questions:
1. As I understand form 5498-SA is for my records only. Does TurboTax software needs me to upload it?
2. I do need to upload both 1099-SA forms to TurboTax. Correct?
Thanks
