Hi, I just received form 1042-S from my bank (income code 29). As I've been living for 3-year in the US on a J1, I'm now considering a resident for tax purposes. Unfortunately, the information didn't reach my bank on time (they didn't have my W9) and they issued me a 1042-S rather than a 1099.
My understanding, from similar questions, is that I need to fill the tax as if I had received the correct form with whatever information appears on the 1042-S.
Given the income code 29, should I file as if I have a 1099-INT? Or should I do it another way (I'm not sure of my understanding of code 29)?
I contacted my bank, and they cannot do anything for the year 2024 (replace 1042-S by form 1099). But it should be okay for the year 2025, now they have my W9...
