At the end of 2021 while signing up for the ACA, my 22 year old son was in college full time. The assumption for 2022 was that he would remain a full time student. Therefore, his ACA insurance was priced as if he were a dependent and part of our tax household. I estimated his earnings and received PTC accordingly.
However, in 2022 he did not attend full time and less than half time. He also worked and earned almost 6K. When I did taxes using turbotax Deluxe, the program stated that he did not qualify as a dependent. I received three form 1095-A's since both my wife and I turned 65 and had to drop ACA coverage in March and June.
I completed our federal/state taxes and entered all three 1095-As. Returns were accepted.
Since he now had to file as 'single', we did his taxes and they were rejected, stating "F8962-070 - The e-File database indicates that Form 8962 or a binary attachment with description containing "ACA Explanation" must be present in the return."
When went back to his tax on turbotax, I see that I did not go thru the section asking for a 1095-A. I went thru it and it prompts if he received a 1095-A and I answered 'No'. Will this go thru now? Or must I somehow go back to the ACA and do who know what? Thanks for your help!

No you do not have to amend your return. The IRS will make any necessary, corrections. On the 1095-A that was sent to you but listed him as a participant, how many were listed as a participant.
Use this link for instructions on how to report the form 1095-a on your son's return. The second bullet addresses his scenario. Ultimately you will need to report the form 1095-A on the son's return. Follow the interview carefully.
No, your son’s tax return will continue to get rejected because the IRS is looking for Form 1095-A and Form 8962 Premium Tax Credit. I’m assuming that one of the Form 1095-A’s that you mentioned that you received was for your son. The Form 1095-A for your son must be entered on his tax return so Form 8962 can be generated for your son’s tax return to be accepted. If your son’s income was not estimated correctly, he may have to pay back a portion of the premium tax credit that the government paid towards his health insurance.

Thanks for the response.
Yes I did receive one of the 1095-As that is for my son's policy. But it is addressed to me with him listed as a participant and I entered that form in my return. Do I have to amend my return to remove that form before we can file his return?

Thank you so much for the reply. Only he is listed as a participant on that 1095-A.
I will review the link to report the 1095-A on my son's return. Thanks!
