For the Clean Vehicle Tax Credit question, Turbotax claims disqualification because of my 2024 income and will not use my 2023 income which qualifies, error?

My 2024 income does not qualify but my 2023 income does. However even after entering my 2023 income and selecting continue the next screen claims I don't qualify citing my 2024 income. Is this a bug? It will not let me manually enter the 8936 tax forms.

Please double check that total income you entered is less than $150,000 for 2023.  Is TurboTax giving you the specific error telling you that you are income disqualified?  When I enter an income of $145,000 for 2023 with an income of over $400,000 for 2024, TurboTax is still giving me the credit.  Look at form 8936 to be sure your numbers are correct.

If you are still not getting the credit, you can delete your form 8936 and re-enter all of the information.  If you are using the online version click here for instruction.  In you are using the desktop version click here. After you delete the form if you are using the online version, you can clear your cache and cookies, then re-enter the information for the EV Credit.

Which version of TurboTax are you using?

Hi Vanessa,

Thank you for the reply. I am using the online TurboTax and attempted to delete the forms as  you suggested which unfortunately did not work. I believe I have narrowed the problem to a more specific issue. 2024 I am trying to file as married but filing separately, but I filed jointly in 2023. If I input a 2023 under the single income limit (75000) it lets me proceed however, if it is above the single income limit it will not let me proceed even if it is below the joint file income limit (see attached screenshots). cv2.pngcv1.png

We are looking into this issue.  Would you please share a diagnostic file of your return to help us with the investigation?  This will remove all of your personal information from your return.  We will only be able to see the numbers and the forms with your personal info removed.

To share your file with us using TurboTax Online select the following once fully logged into your return:

  1. Tax Tools on the left hand side of your screen in the menu
  2. Tools
  3. Share my file with agent
  4. Ok when you see a pop up that says send the sanitized diagnostic copy to us
  5. then reply with you token number in this chat thread.
