Do I have to report mortgage interest 1098 on my second home?

You don't necessarily have to.

But if you’re itemizing deductions – on your federal and/or state returns – this information could provide a tax benefit.  

You’re able to claim mortgage interest, points, or real estate/property taxes that are shown on Form 1098 when you itemize deductions.

Bear in mind that you may be able to itemize deductions on your state return, even though you may not meet the threshold on your federal return.
