I've been reading everywhere about deducting your business mileage, but when I go to do it, it says I can't. Is there a reason why?

If you are an employee who receives a W-2 then you cannot claim any employee business expenses on a federal tax return, including mileage.
If you are a self-employed/sole proprietor then you can claim either vehicle mileage as an expense or the actual vehicle expenses as an expense, but not both.
What kind of business? Are you self-employed and referring to Schedule C expenses?
Or are you referring to employee job expenses for a W-2 job?
"when I go to do it, it says I can't."
What product are you using and what interview topic and screen are you referring to? Are you referring to 2018 tax year product or the new 2019 product?
Employees cannot take a mileage deduction from 2018 until 2025 or until congress changes their minds again.
How can this be?! I rely heavily on this deduction. Are you sure?

Yes. Employee business expenses are no longer deductible, including vehicle mileage, on a federal tax return due to the tax code changes for tax years 2018 thru 2025.
For self-employed persons, vehicle mileage is still an eligible business expense.
