advanced child

My daughter received advanced child credit payments in 2021 for her child (our granddaughter) based on her filing in 2019. She received a form 6419.

She did not work in 2020 or 2021 and lived with us. We fully supported her and our granddaughter and want to claim her and our granddaughter on our 2021 return.

Does my daughter need to file a return for the form 6419 she received?

Are we eligible to claim the child tax credit for our granddaughter?

Yes your daughter does have to file and report the advanced CTC payments received as reported on her 5419 letter.   Depending on her income, she will probably not have to pay it back.

If you are now claiming the child on your tax return you can get the full amount of the CTC on your own return,  It will show up on line 28 of your Form 1040.
