I have one dependent under 6. We got $1,800 in the advanced credit. However, when I put the amount in to turbotax, it says "You qualify, but received too much in advanced payments." I should be getting another $1,800 back, shouldn't I? It's $3,600 for a child under 6.

The "refund monitor" starts off by giving your all of the stimulus money and all of the child tax credit because the software does not know yet that you received stimulus money or that you received some advance child tax credit payments. That gets reconciled later.
That "refund monitor" changes as you enter information. That is normal. And you cannot take it seriously until you enter ALL of your information---even though it is so tempting to believe that the highest amount is the "right" refund.
Federal>Deductions and Credits>You and Your Family>Child Tax Credit
The IRS is sending out letter 6419 to you. It will show the amount of advance child tax credit that you received during 2021. Enter the information from that letter carefully.
The remaining amount of CTC that you can receive will show up on line 28 of your 2021 Form 1040.
PREVIEW 1040

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.
NOTE: The CTC is indeed a “credit” that can be applied toward any tax liability that you would otherwise have to pay as “tax due” to the IRS.
How much is on line 28? If it is less than 1,800 go back and check their age under My Info and all the other answers to make sure your child is showing up as a dependent. Or your income might be too high and the credit is being phased out. Or maybe you entered the wrong amount instead of the 1800 you already got.
I put the information in as it is stated on our forms, but it says that I do not get anymore money back. I am super confused.
We made under the threshold, but on line 28, it is empty.
Make sure you did not enter the $1800 twice. It should be $900 for each parent on a joint return.
deleted..
And....since there are all kinds of family situations with children being claimed last year by Grandmas, other parents, ex's , etc. etc. etc.----did you receive the payments for more than one child between July and December? What was the total amount you received?
I only had one child last year and we were the only one who claimed him.
Did you enter your child correctly as a dependent for 2021 in My Info? Did you enter his Social Security number?
Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year. There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support. Say NO to that question.
Or try deleting the child and re-enter his information in My Info.
Thank you so much! That worked! That helped me so much and I appreciate you!
What worked? Mines is still off by 10k
You may need to ensure you have all the information entered for your dependents including their Social Security Number. This is a necessary item to be a qualified dependent for the Child Tax Credit.
Next, ensure you have entered your Advance Child Tax Credit receipts from Letter 6419 you received from the IRS accurately.
Finally, there is a Modified Adjusted Gross Income limitation. If your amount is higher, then the credit is adjusted.
