Turbotax won't let me file 2021 Michigan tax forms yet. However, Michigan has been accepting tax returns since January 24. Why hasn't turbotax updated?

MI must first approve TT's versions (programming) of its forms.
Ther are a few MI forms that are not fully ready yet.
Those folks who don't need any of those additional forms should be able to efile, but perhaps your tax return contains one or more of the extra ones needed:

@SteamTrain Thanks for the link. I looked through the list and didn't see anything that looked like it applied to us. (We were born in the time of the $40K Tier 2 std deduction, and don't live in or pay any city income taxes. We also don't plan to pay quarterly estimated taxes.) Turbotax wouldn't even let me print a return to check or to send by mail. I guess I should wait until after Feb 10 just in case, and then see if I can print out the tax forms. (?)
Any idea why the Michigan tax returns are still not printable?
Also curious about this. It appears that all the forms are available, but can't print.
If you are using TurboTax for Desktop you will want to make sure to update your software, then try to print your forms again.
How do I update my TurboTax CD/Download software program?
If updating your software does not work or you are using TurboTax Online, please reach out to TurboTax Customer Support for assistance.
What is the TurboTax phone number?
Thank you for a response. I spoke with someone on the phone already last week Saturday and they even used the remoting in function. Should the forms be available? They told me just to wait but I really would like to send in my local taxes from the state form as we are owed quite a bit of money from the City.
I've also now spoken to support (including remote session), and have simply been advised to wait. This is despite the Michigan forms all being available according to TurboTax's own site. There is no ETA. I can not file my city (Grand Rapids) return until the form is available to download. Hopefully someone else can get luckier than me and at least get an ETA for this.
Please tell me what MI form you are referring to. TurboTax shows all forms are available for Michigan - see State Forms Availability.
That's the problem. They show as available, however in TurboTax Online I am unable to print Michigan, only "Preview". I am from the city of Grand Rapids, so perhaps it's some Grand Rapids form.
Good Afternoon @BillM223 ,
It just has the entire Michigan State Tax return in preview only. Perhaps it is because the City of Grand Rapids tax forms are not ready?
As best I see it, you don't file a separate Grand Rapids return, rather, your employer withholds your tax and pays it directly to the city. This, however, is reported on the Common City Form CF-1040 which IS on your state return. TurboTax generates the CF-1040; however, it does not support e-filing it. I do not know why.
What you might try is this (no guarantees). After you pay for the Online product, you will be able to see all your forms, including the CF-1040 (and others?). Look at the Grand Rapids Income Tax webpage and go through them to see if you can find a phone number. Call the City and ask if you can mail the CF-1040 to them while you e-file to the state.
If they are OK with this, then before you file, go into The Print Center in TurboTax Online, create the PDF for the return (you should make a copy of the return in any case), make a copy of the city's form or forms, and mail them to the city.
Then in TurboTax, go to the interview for Michigan, on the left click on Tax Tools, then on Tools underneath it, then in the center, click on Delete a Form. In the list of forms find the CF-1040 (and any other city forms) and delete it. Then perhaps you can e-file your state return.
I have already filed and gotten my state tax return money back from the state. In order to send in the local taxes I need to print the state ones but in preview mode it is not possible.
Same here. MI is filed, got the check already. I just need the CF-1040 to file Grand Rapids. It seems likely the delay is related to Grand Rapids, but it would be nice to know of an ETA. I’ve always done this in this manner and this is easily the longest I’ve had to wait. The actual Form is available on the Grand Rapids site, so it could be done manually. I’d be happy to just know it’s being worked on.
