The credit is carried forward until it can be completely used. If not totally used on the 2024 tax return the remainder is carried forward to the2025 return.
It's only a $228 carry forward from 2023. Why can't I use it in 2024? I have no other solar or disaster credits.
It is possible that your 2024 tax return shows no tax liability to apply the Credit to. So, if your Federal tax assessed is already a zero, then there is nothing to apply the credit to, and it carries over to next year.
Of course, that could change if you haven't entered all your income into your tax return file yet.

Note: It may not be your situation, but those with Self-Employment income cannot reduce their SS and Medicare taxes with the solar credit.
