Why do i have both FICA and medicare deductions on my paycheck? I thought FICA included medicare?

Ask your employer. FICA is SS and Medicare but maybe your employer is calling just the SS part FICA. SS is 6.2% and Medicare is 1.45%

In the event your pay is over $200,000, there is an "Additional Medicare Tax" besides FICA.

The Form W-2 separates these two taxes, as you may see in the W-2 template shown in the image. They are reported as two separate amounts withheld.

Se Boxes 5&6 for Medicare and Boxes 7&8 for Social Security
