Unemployment Compensation

I was working as a travel nurse in Colorado when the pandemic hit. I filed for unemployment in Colorado because that's what my work said to do. I entered the amount from 1099-G line 1 into my federal income tax. Do I also enter that same number as coming from a Colorado resource?

Unemployment Compensation

Are you filing a Colorado income tax return? Colorado unemployment is taxable to CO so the same number would be "as coming from a Colorado resource." The state has not recognized the federal $10,200 exemption for unemployment benefits for households with less than $150,000 in income.

All unemployment will be taxable to your resident state (if they tax unemployment) and to CO. If you were a part-year resident, the portion of benefits received while you were a part-year resident are taxable to that state.
