Unable to paper file my state return

I'm using TT Deluxe 2018 on my Mac, and mistakenly selected efile state before I discovered Intuit's $25 extortion fee.

I tried to print the return, and TT is now printing an efile version which can't be sent to Virginia Tax Dept. It is also dropping my Direct Deposit Account Information.

How do I switch back to mail file and fix the Direct Deposit info I already had there?

I don't use a Mac, but in the Windows program, you can simply return to the FILE section of the program and go through that portion of the interview again.  You should be able to change to File By Mail there.  Additionally, when revisiting that section step-by-step, you should be able to edit/update your direct deposit information.

I hate the "extortion" fee, as well, but I usually do it since it's just simpler.

I'll tag one of our resident SuperUsers who is a Mac user so he can offer additional info if he's in the forum now.

Mac is the same.  Return  to the file tab.

Yes I think you just go back through the File tab again and watch the screens.  Did you already get charged the efile fee?

If you can't remove it you can try deleting the state return then re add it.

In addition, in the forms mode you can go to the state forms -> Info Worksheet  part VII (for most states) for Direct Deposit Information.

Unable to paper file my state return

Thanks everyone.

I think I was unable to switch away from eFile VA, due to Fed eFile not being accepted. I did go in and add the Bank / Routing info to the form, which fixed direct deposit.

I understand the Fed / State requirement not to process State before Fed eFile is accepted. What I don't understand is WHY Intuit, doesn't tell you you can't change anything before Fed acceptance?!?!

I also what to call out Intuit for punishing users who refuse to pay the State eFile 'tax', by quietly removing direct deposit from the state mail-in return.

Thanks again all for your quick responses!

Ok... The program is not trying to be vindictive so don't feel put upon.

Being unable to change anything while the federal is still pending is standard operating procedure for all DIY programs. And if you e-filed the state and federal at the same time and the FEDS gets accepted the state is automatically e-filed and this cannot be changed. Hopefully you did not e file both at the same time so once the Federal has been accepted you can change the state to a mailed in return. Unfortunately when you went from e-file to mailed in return the direct deposit information was required to be entered again. This is simply a security measure it is not meant to be punitive.
