Using TT2021/SC State return:
After I enter the DDepost information, my only options are "Use Another Refund Method" or "Use Direct Deposit".
I select "Use Direct Deposit" and the next screen has RED LETTERS of "Account Number Needed", "Routing Number Needed"... and I did enter both correctly, along with bank name. I've gone through this step numerous times and the bank information is never stored by TT2021 for some reasons. The fields are always blank when I go back.
Then I went to the actual South Carolina State form and inputted the information manually and again, it wasn't saved.
Help!!!
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
What eventually worked for me was
1.go to Federal 1040 form and open form for editing,
2. enter direct deposit bank info (even though you owe)
3. close form
4. Go to the "Filing" step and enter bank info for SC direct deposit when prompted...
It seems the info must be in the Federal form before TTax desktop accepts manual entry for state.
What I don't understand is why the state form doesn't just import the bank info from Federal.
Hope this helps...
@Oz01 Are you possibly changing the banking info you used last year when filing with TurboTax? The TurboTax programs typically transfer the prior-year direct deposit information to save users from having to re-enter it.
If you are using TurboTax Online, you'll need to make sure the box regarding using the same info from last year is left unchecked before proceeding. This option occurs during the federal return portion. The same banking info "should" transfer to your state return automatically, unless you instruct the program otherwise. See the TurboTax FAQ I'm linking below for instructions.
How do I change my transferred direct deposit information?
Actually TTax2022 Deluxe didn't import last years DDeposit info for some reason (which was also TTax Deluxe) but it is exact same bank info as this year... please note that I tried to manually input the data many times and TTax2021 wouldn't save it when I went to next screen. Same thing happened when I manually updated the actual SC form where the info is actually used. In a nutshell, I cannot manually input bank info and have TTax actually save it.
I'll report this to Moderators for investigation. I don't see any current reported issues like this. But it's early in the season.
Are you using TT Online? Maybe try signing out of your return (after saving it), then log back in using a different browser. And sometimes (this is a weird thing, I know, but computers being what they are...) it helps to clear browsing history and cache, and delete cookies.
As noted in my posts, I am having problem with paid version of TTax 2021 Deluxe...not online.
But I did do my sons taxes with free online TT and it worked properly, imported his bank information from previous year (also the free online service), and successfully submitted both Federal and State return.
Again, the problem with Deluxe is it didn't import last years bank information and then wouldn't accept manual import this year...kept telling me input Account and Routing number after I already did.
From what you've indicated, Assuming you are using the "Desktop" software:
Did you try:
1) switching to "Forms Mode" ?
2) Find and open the Federal "Info Wks" (Federal Information Worksheet)
3) Scroll down to Part V of that form and enter your bank, Routing and Acct # there. Make sure you check the box as to whether it is a Savings or Checking account...and any other check-boxes as appropriate.
See if that works.
Ther is a similar Info Wksheet in the State section...might also be in Part V, but some state sheets vary as to section numbering.
I entered the information on the state form but not the Federal. State form didn't work, wouldn't save the info... ill give Federal a try...
I am having the same issue with my South Carolina State. I have gone into forms mode and entered the routing and account number, but still unable to go past the point and just having the bold red letters to enter the information. Has there been a fix for this?
Not that I know of...
@Oz01 @Mike20-9 Can each of you confirm to me that your DESKTOP TurboTax programs did not transfer prior-year banking information (relating to direct deposit) into the 2021 programs? I'm asking about both federal and state programs. Thanks in advance.
Desktop Deluxe did not transfer last years bank information for South Carolina and it won't allow manual entry during the filing process.
There is a small amount OWED on Federal so I will not be using bank information. Is it suppose to transfer if filer owes money? I don't think I want bank information on tax return(Federal or State) if I owe money...
@Oz01 Got it. I'm wondering if this issue isn't related only to the SC program. TurboTax doesn't actually prepare the state programs, but assimilates them into the software. Since both you and @Mike20-9 are using the SC program, it's more likely what's going on.
I don't know if it would help, but you "may" want to phone SC DOR and let them know of the problem you're experiencing. In the meantime, I'll update TurboTax Moderators.
Fyi...this is first time I had this issue with SC tax return (desktop)...ive used multiple years.
The free online SC state version worked fine for my son...Turbotax imported bank information and successfully filed both Federal and SC. I assume the online and desktop share the same core programming.
@Oz01 Thanks for the info. I'll let the Moderators know that this is specific to the desktop programs.
The desktop and online programs are similar, but also different in SO many ways.
Edited to add: And EACH year is new and complicated, both with federal and state programs. Hope we can get this worked out for you quickly.
Desktop Deluxe did not transfer last years bank information for South Carolina and it won't allow manual entry during the filing process (same as Oz01). I also owe small amount Federal this year, have chosen the option to send in via print voucher with check and mail in, but I will get a refund for SC State and it looks like the application is not saving the bank, routing and account information.
BTW. I can also confirm that the web TT works as my son filed this weekend with no issue with SC.
