I heard it includes one state for free and if it's NY the efile is also free. However, when I'm at that step (on CD - mac), it's asking me to download state and to pay for it. Why?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
The software to prepare the state return is free, however, if you choose to e-file there is a fee to e-file.
You can read more on this here.
1) are you sure you are preparing your file using the cd/Desktop "Premier" product....Not "Baisc" or some versions of "Deluxe"?
2) IF you are preparing two states?....maybe your other state was the free one?
3) Yes...e-filing NY from the Desktop product is free ...once you actually have the NY software.
4) If you are messed up, and preparing your taxes using a "Browser"...like Safari...then you are NOT in the CD version. You are in the Online version where you have to pay separately for every state.

If you are certain you are using the cd/download version...Premier...make sure you have successfully installed all software updates....otherwise, you might have to uninstall, and reinstall TTC...or call Customer Support:
