Hi There,
How do I know if an attachment to my Michigan MI-1041 electronic filing is being sent to the state.? I've tried twice, and I both times I get the following rejection message:
When MI-1041 Schedule 3 Column A (Location) is populated with "VARIOUS", an Explanation.pdf must be attached.
On my first submission, I named the document using the name of the entity and the date. The second time, I name the attachment Explanation.pdf.
Thanks!

You cannot attach a pdf to an e-filed tax return. If the state wants more information than they are getting on the e-filed return, they will ask you for the information in a letter.
Appreciate the info. Curious then why would TT ask to create the attachment, as part of the state electronic filing process?
Also, how do I view such attachments in TT. I don't see a selection to do so.
Thanks.
In order to file your tax return with attachments you have to be using TurboTax desktop. If you aren't then the attachments aren't going to send.
Here's how to upgrade to desktop if you are using the online program.
In the forms mode of the desktop program you'll be able to attach files and view the files that you have attached.
Hi Robert,
I am using the desktop version. What do I do? It appears my state is not receiving the attachment.
Regards,
I would print it and mail it. Efiled tax returns are really just data from forms and information on how to enter it. I'm guessing that your attachment is getting scrambled somehow.
