State Tax Adjustment Question
Filed our taxes (married, filing jointly) back in April with no issues. This week we received a notice from the State of Alabama stating that we owe an additional $45 on top of the $1800 we've already paid. There was no explanation for the adjustment. I've reached out to the Alabama Dept. of Taxation for additional information, but they have yet to respond. We have 10 days to make payment. Do I have any recourse here?

your notice should tell you what you can do.
Usually you can respond in writing that you dispute their finding. That will buy you more time.

I think the letter should say what they changed or are charging you for. For a small amount could that be interest or penalty for paying late? Ask them why.

Thanks. I agree the notice should provide more information. I'll keep bugging them for an answer.
