did you use the screen that @SteamTrain posted earlier? THAT is the way to do this and it's in the step x step.
All the items in the NC column should be zero, except the rental income line. it's that simple. You may be overthinking this. Are you zeroing all items (other than rental income)? please respond with a simple "yes" or "no". if "no", that is the issue.

@Peter56 call TT again - get another rep. When you override, the TT warrantee is invalided. Best not to do that. Ask the rep where in their procedures database is it documented to tell customers to override; I bet the rep was "just winging it".
The software works as designed without an override necessary; I did it myself.
I live in Tennessee which has no income tax so no filing is required. I have a teacher retirement pension from NC. So , do I have to file this unearned income in NC. I have no other NC income
No, retirement income is taxed according to where you live, not the state associated with the payments. Since you are a resident of TN, it will not be reported on a state tax return.
