Michigan deduction for medical insurance premiums when determining the amount of Homestead Property Credit

Pre-tax health insurance premiums are not deductible for purposes of the Homestead Property Tax Credit. Michigan lists premiums not deductible from total household resources:

  • Premiums paid for the following types of plans may not be deducted except to the extent deducted to arrive at adjusted gross income:
  • Premiums for long-term care
  • Premiums for income replacement coverage, such as long-term disability plans
  • Premiums for disability insurance policies
  • Premiums for policies for loss of life, limb, sight, etc.
  • Premiums paid by an employer with pre-tax contributions
