I had to amend my taxes and Turbotax led me through filing my federal taxes electronically. It only gave me the option to efile the Federal (Federal was accepted in one hour). After the Federal efile, it just had an option to exit Turbotax and didn't "say" anything about filing my state taxes. Its like it is ignoring the state. I know I have to file the amended state taxes but don't know how.

To get the state amended, go back into your TurboTax program. There should have been a screen Let's get started on your state taxes. after completing the federal amendment.
To amend the states, the steps are identical to filing a federal amended return initially.
To do this in TurboTax, see: I need to amend my state return which provides the steps for both TurboTax Online and TurboTax CD/Download.
The directions for TurboTax Online from the above link:
Once the amendment is triggered, and the correction has been completed, follow the prompts for how to submit it to the state.
South Carolina requires amended returns to be mailed in. TurboTax will provide you all necessary instructions to file including the address for the mailing.
When I started to amend my taxes, the Federal tax total reset to zero (I was expecting that), however, the state tax total did not reset to zero (which I believe it should have). I went through the amending process and it verified the Federal and State were correct. I even reviewed the pdf and all looked correct. It showed $14 additional federal taxes due and $5 additional state tax due. The state tax total was $764 which was $759 which I had paid on the first submittal and $5 extra for the amending. So the state 1040-V was not correct.
Now comes the increasing confusing part. Turbotax asked to file and said it might be possible to file electronically. So I moved to the next screen and it only gave me the option to electronically file the Federal. That was successful. Then I expected the next screen to show me what to print and instructions (what forms to submit, mailing address, etc.) on filing my South Carolina amended taxes by mail. However, the next screen said "Great you are finished" exit Turbotax. Turbotax ignored the state after e-filing the Federal. Very confusing and frustrating. I had to call the SC Dept. of Rev. to determine which forms they needed. They were a little vague and contradicting so I mailed what I "thought" they would need and I'll find out if I left anything out.
I'm been using Turbotax for 20+ years with great results. This is first time I had to amend my taxes and Turbotax proved to be less than acceptable as to how it handled the state amendment.
Thank you
According to a release dated 5/25 on dor.sc.gov/communication, SC amendments CAN be filed electronically. Will this be updated in the software to be able to do so?
I completed amended federal and S.C. state returns using Turbo Tax. The federal return was filed and accepted. The TT program said it couldn't file the S.C. return yet, but didn't provide any information about filing it myself on paper or electronically. However, it did allow me to schedule electronic repayments for both federal and state. But now I can't find verification of that, or any information on whether I need to file the amended state return myself or not. Can you please help?
Yes, you'll need to print and mail your amended state return yourself.
You can print and mail your amended South Carolina return using TurboTax, or you can e-file directly with the state, but it can't be e-filed using TurboTax.
See the TurboTax Help article Can I e-file my amended state return? and How do I print and mail my return in TurboTax Online? for guidance.
