Extension

Hi I did a extension on my taxes, now I’m ready to start filing. How can I start it? Would turbo tax see that I filed for a extension?

There is nothing "special" you have to do to prepare your 2018 tax return that you have an extension for, except to make sure that the amount you paid to the IRS when you requested the extension is entered on your return.

When you requested your extension you were supposed to pay your estimated tax due.  Did you enter the payment you made into your tax return?  Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Estimates and Other Taxes Paid>Other Income Taxes

Otherwise, just prepare and e-file your 2018 tax return normally.  You have until October 15. 2019 to e-file; after that you have to print, sign and mail it.

Having the same problem - I do not see a way to mark that an extension was filed under the Pennsylvania return.  It just says "N" next to "extension?" and I cannot change it.  Help!

What if I did not pay the estimated amount owed on my taxes before I got the extension? How do I go about filing 2018 taxes with an extension?

Extension

@Briankac

You just prepare and file your tax return normally.    The extension did NOT give you extra time to pay your tax due, so if you owe when your return is ready to file, pay what it says you owe when you file, and then expect a bill from the IRS later--for the extra penalty and interest they will calculate.  TurboTax will not calculate that.  If you are getting a refund, no problem at all.  There is no penalty for filing late if you are getting a refund, and you did not even need an extension if you are getting a refund.

You have untilOctober 15, 2019 to e-file your 2018 return.  If you miss that deadline, you have to print, sign and mail it.
