My California FTB. was rejected It is something about my 1$ owe and my deductions
Please clarify. Which state is giving you a wrong year error? I haven't seen anything like that and would like to help get this figured out.
@Terry Hall can you tell us more about your reject message?
I had purchased a Federal and State, with the state filing also free TurboTax program for TY 2023. We completed the Federal and State Tax and printed it out. Then we sent it. We waited the required amount of time to receive our refund. When we called, they stated we never filed it. I hit the send button, and it said sent. We used the disk again, to file our 2023 taxes that never went thru the first time. I got into the return all the way to when it stated there is a TurboTax error 606. I don't know what that is, and I would like to refile my 2023 taxes. Could someone Pleaseee help me. If you can help me Thank You so much.
@danjo54 E-filing is now permanently closed for 2023 returns. No matter why your e-file attempt was unsuccessful, the only way you can file the 2023 returns now is by mail. You need to print the returns, sign and date them in ink, and mail them in.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
When did you send it? Did you go all the way to the end and hit the big Transmit Returns Now button? Did you get any emails? When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. Look back though your emails around the time you sent it.
If you saved the original PDF and printed it out you can just print another copy of the original return and mail that. Or just copy the printed return you have to mail. And see if you have a cover sheet of instructions in your print out. That will say how you filed it. Maybe you were suppose to print and mail it.
Did you have to do the return over? Did you have to reinstall the program? Didn't you have the original file ending in .tax2023? If you were able to open the original .tax2023 file you can check the filing status inside the program and see if you actually sent it and if it rejected or was Accepted. Open your return and go up to menu item
File > Electronic Filing > Check Electronic Filing Status
ALSO there is no personal Desktop program that has a free state efile. It is $20 early ($25 after March 1) to efile state. Unless you are in New York, NY is free to efile state. You can ask for a refund if you couldn't efile state. Check your credit card statements to see if you paid it. Or you could have had the fee deducted from a federal refund. There is a lot of confusion about this. For the Desktop Deluxe and above it's a free download of one state PROGRAM, not free state efile. You can prepare unlimited federal and unlimited state returns. Some people need to file in more than one state so they have to buy another state program.
