State tax filing
When did you send it? Did you go all the way to the end and hit the big Transmit Returns Now button? Did you get any emails? When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. Look back though your emails around the time you sent it.
If you saved the original PDF and printed it out you can just print another copy of the original return and mail that. Or just copy the printed return you have to mail. And see if you have a cover sheet of instructions in your print out. That will say how you filed it. Maybe you were suppose to print and mail it.
Did you have to do the return over? Did you have to reinstall the program? Didn't you have the original file ending in .tax2023? If you were able to open the original .tax2023 file you can check the filing status inside the program and see if you actually sent it and if it rejected or was Accepted. Open your return and go up to menu item
File > Electronic Filing > Check Electronic Filing Status
ALSO there is no personal Desktop program that has a free state efile. It is $20 early ($25 after March 1) to efile state. Unless you are in New York, NY is free to efile state. You can ask for a refund if you couldn't efile state. Check your credit card statements to see if you paid it. Or you could have had the fee deducted from a federal refund. There is a lot of confusion about this. For the Desktop Deluxe and above it's a free download of one state PROGRAM, not free state efile. You can prepare unlimited federal and unlimited state returns. Some people need to file in more than one state so they have to buy another state program.
