Hello,
I just finished filing my taxes and found out about a new form that turbotax did not mention at the time I filed my taxes (I have the desktop version of home and business).
A cursory look shows I may have overpaid a lot (over $1,000): Why doesn't the product have the 140-SBI form? What do I do now?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Bump!
Just spent over an hour with help desk who escalated it to tech support and then resolution desk with no resolution. Could someone help?
Thank you.
This form is not supported in Turbo Tax. In order to complete this, you will need to do it directly from the AZ website here.
Thank you for the response. The next part is not directed at a single individual but rather the words Intuit has on its website and what the firm states it stands for.
It would be immensely helpful if the product did not advertise "best refund" and instead talked about this before individuals file their taxes and pay turbotax. I would've been much happier if the software simply stated that it did not support this form instead of listing the form under "what's new this year" on the desktop version of the program (I did use the appropriate program: Home and Business). Unfortunately, I already filed my taxes and it does not seem like I can even amend my return using the program. For what its worth I spent a lot of time talking to customer support and most "tax experts" don't have a clue about the form and I had to tell them this was a real form. I guess it is what it is....
Same situation. Called Turbotax and they were helpless. Couldn't even get the support agent to escalate it inside Intuit. Dont give up on getting the refund for the over payment but it will take some work.
Called the AZ DOR and they told me to do the following:
Note: This is what the AZDOR agent told me (sounded like she knew what she was talking about and she checked with her supervisor before she gave me this input). But I again have not done this yet but plan to in a couple weeks.
When I get near the end of the questions, a page with the title "Arizona Small Business Income Tax" comes up. The last line on that page states "TurboTax is working on adding support for the 2021 Arizona Small Business Income (SBI) tax returns. Please check back around mid April."
Mid April is when Taxes are due, so not sure what to think of that. Extension, File an Amended, or follow prev post manual instructions.
Beginning with tax year 2021, a taxpayer may elect to file a separate small business income tax return (Form 140-SBI, 140NR-SBI or 140PY-SBI) to report the their share of Arizona small business gross income.
If you believe this would be advantageous, you can request an Extension or file now and Amend later.
This link has details for Arizona Form 140-SBI that you can review.
AZ folks: I would NOT file the regular 140 now and then amend after April 18 to include the SBI as the SBI election will likely get disallowed. Per the AZ DOR, the SBI return must be received at the same time and in the same envelope / filing as the personal 140 return. If they are not received together, then the DOR can disallow the SBI return election. If filing a paper return, they also have a different address to use.
Note: if you have already filed the 140 personal return without the SBI return and you want to amend to elect the SBI, then you MUST file an amended 140X by April 18 together with a 140-SBI (new form not the 140-SBIX form as you have no SBI return to amend). This is clearly stated in the AZ DOR Q&A's on SBI. If you try do this after April 18, then your amendment to include the SBI may get disallowed.
If you can not fill out both forms and file on time, I would recommend you file for an extension and then you have time to figure this out and wait for TurboTax to get the forms incorporated. I plan to file for an extension on 2 that I am doing for friends and see if TurboTax can get the form figured out. My guess is that the first release of the SBI form by TurboTax will have issues so my plan is to wait a month to let it settle down.
You can file for an extension on Federal (not needed for the AZ forms) and this automatically grants a 6 month extension for the AZ regular 140 form as well as the SBI form. Or you can just request an AZ extension and this will cover for AZ both the 140 and the SBI forms. IF you file an extension, make sure you pay the taxes you estimate will be due for both the regular140 and the SBI returns by April 18. Note: you also will need to make quarterly estimated tax payments for BOTH the 2022 SBI tax year and also your personal 140 2022 tax year (if applicable). The SBI estimated tax form is a different number (204 I believe). There is a lot of good info on the AZDOR.GOV website including Q&A, etc. I also emailed the DOR with a question on the SBI and what to include and they responded via email within 2 hours. On the phone they have also been very helpful.
If it is of interest to anyone, my email question today was on the definition of Schedule C profit and if it was before or after the 50% self-employment tax and self-employed medical insurance premiums. They told me that it is schedule C profit before the deductions for SE tax and health insurance. Made no sense to me that it is before but does lower the tax bill. they said it is specifically laid out in the statutes that way.
Thanks for this information. I just found out from a CPA friend about the new SBI form. Apparently the final version of the form was just released this week, which presumably is why Turbo Tax does not support the form. Hopefully they will next year. The accountants are putting most of their returns on extension to give them time to figure out the new form. As I understand it, if you have small business income and you have enough income to put you in the 4.17% bracket (ie taxable income of over $111,229), you will save by filing the SBI form, as it caps tax on SBI at 3.5%.
Yes, the program is still showing the screen saying to check back mid-April.
I see replies on the thread saying it will not be supported.
Can someone who absolutely knows the truth about this please weigh in?
It depends on what you are trying to do, print version is available but currently not e-file according to State forms availability table for TurboTax individual (personal) tax products. A date will show when there is an expected release.
@TaxpayerZero
I tried the 140sbi route on april 14. TTfilled in numbers but stated that the form is not yet supported and to ck back in mid may and to file for an extension. I tried to print the sbi forms TT had generated but they would not print. By splitting my personal income from sbi i will hopefully eventually get a refund between the two filings. But i have to up front $1600 with my extension. I really didnt want to file an extension but i will. I was just going to copy the numbers TT generated on to a hard copy of the sbi form but as someone commented in this thread that it will probably have some bugs for a while.
Is this supported in TT yet?

Form AZ-140V-SBI Arizona Individual Income Tax Payment Voucher for Electronic Filing of Form 140-SBI is not supported for e-filing on a 2022 tax return.
Use this TurboTax website for federal and state forms availability - https://form-status.app.intuit.com/tax-forms-availability/formsavailability?albRedirect=true&product...
Does not filing 140-SBI simply make getting back over payment take longer, or are there potential savings missed by not filing it?
