State tax filing
Same situation. Called Turbotax and they were helpless. Couldn't even get the support agent to escalate it inside Intuit. Dont give up on getting the refund for the over payment but it will take some work.
Called the AZ DOR and they told me to do the following:
- Note: you are going to have to file the return by US Mail (paper) not electronic.
- Complete a 140-SBI form - you can download a copy from AZDOR.Gov. Prepare the 140-SBI as "new" not amended since you did not file this form with your personal return. you need to do this before you prepare your amended 140 return.
- Prepare an amended 140 personal tax return that includes the info from the SBI form(s). you can use Turbotax to prepare (but not file) this amended return. you have to go to the "forms" view to check the box for 140-SBI and fill in the amount. note there are several other lines on the AZ personal return that also allow you to do SBI adjustments / versions like the charitable deductions. When you are satisfied with the amended return then you will want to print
- you must assemble the return in the proper order.. i have not got to this yet but they are going to want the SBI form inserted in a particular order with your 140 Form. i just have not done this yet so can't tell you what order it goes in. There is a 140-SBI preparation booklet you can download from the AZ DOR website that will tell you i believe.
- then you have to mail the combined amended 140 Form and the initial140-SBI form(s) together. you need to postmark by Apirl18 or the amendment will get rejected. they will process these 2 returns and should then send you a refund for the overpayment you made.
Note: This is what the AZDOR agent told me (sounded like she knew what she was talking about and she checked with her supervisor before she gave me this input). But I again have not done this yet but plan to in a couple weeks.
