After deleting it and putting 0 on fed mine was accepted in 30 mins
I have had it happen twice!
Will it effect my fed refund (got accepted) if I go back and change the charitable donation ?
How do I get back to this pop-up? I remember seeing it and entering some miniscule number, but the number I entered doesn't show up under the "Charitable Donations" section under the Fed taxes. Anyway to form edit the CA return?
@Davena No it won’t effect your fed return as that’s already been transmitted and accepted. Zero out the charitable contributions question delete your old state return and hit start over so it brings over the new 0’ed out charitable info. I corrected mine after my fed was accepted and refund approved. It only refilled your state taxes.
Does anyone know how to change the charitable donations on the Fed if it's already been accepted? I read that that is the issue but cannot find where to change once it's gone through.
go back to your Fed Tax, startover, you'll get to edit charitable donation. just completely remove any amount.
@khoupernicus as big of a pain in the butt it is go back from the begging of the fed return until that question pops up then zero it out it was towards the end for me. Delete your old state return and hit start over so it brings over the 0’ed out charitable contribution from your fed return and you should be good to go to refile. No this won’t effect your fed return if it’s already been filed and accepted.
Did your fed got accepted before removing the donation amount ?
This must be a glitch in the system. Not sure if it's a turbo tax glitch or CA state glitch. So many people are getting rejected CA returns due to charitable contributions. I tried resubmitting twice. We shall see if the 3rd time gets approved. But I did followed someone elses suggestion of deleting previous state return and restarting the form.
@Agav you need to go back to your fed return and zero out the question that asks if you made any charitable contributions. Then delete your old state return hit start over and import the new info from the fed return and you should be good to refile. This won’t effect your federal return if it’s already been filed and accepted, I corrected mine after my fed was filed accepted and refund approved @Davena
Yes, twice! I went over the state return from start to finish and could not find any section to enter/ delete the contribution. Very upsetting to say the least. I don't know what to do at this point. Turbo Tax needs to update their software otherwise the state return is going to be rejected again.....for the third time!
@Aloha1 That’s because it’s on your federal return. There’s a question that asks how much you contributed to charity on the federal side you need to zero out then delete your old state return and reimport the new zero’ed out charitable contribution. Then you should have no problem having your state taxes accepted. You can edit the fed side even if it’s been filed and accepted.
Just to sum it up, you reported the contribution in Fed return but did not report it on the State return right?
Thanks! I got to that pop-up. Like you said, I had to start over and keep clicking on "Continue" and "Wrap up..." until the screen showed up. The title of the pop-up is "Charitable Cash Contributions under Cares Act" and you should zero it out.
