I eFiled my NC State Income Taxes through the TurboTax Desktop app.
TurboTax solicited my payment (banking) information for this payment.
However, I see various comments that TurboTax cannot make those payments.
What is happening? WILL TurboTax/Intuit make my NC State tax payment or not? .....or do I need to go to the State site online and do it there?
I cannot afford to get double-billed for this

So, then....apparently there IS no bright side.
No...what actually happens, it seems, is that the State makes BOTH drafts. And....if you do ANYTHING on your end to prevent either of those drafts from going through, then the state charges you a percentage penalty (in my case...roughly north of $500).
THEN.....at some point down the road....the State wakes up one morning and realizes the surplus, then prints you a cheque which they then mail to you. No direct deposit, don't even ask.
Had I found out the TRUE story on all this prior to their scheduled day of draft, then they MIGHT (they said "MIGHT") have been able to stop one or the other. But, as I didn't find out until the day they wanted to come get my money...I was required to hand it all over and shut the hell up.
Promised elapsed time from double-draft to cheque writing: three weeks, give or take.
ACTUAL time......guess I am going to find out (some day).
NOW....if TTDlx had not stated that users MUST use the State website in a page directly prior to the page asking 'gee, would you like to file/ePay?'. And if equally false information was not passed on by various people claiming 'experience in accounting, taxes, insurance, litigation, yadda, yadda'....I might have been saved the hardship of making the State a several thousand dollar short term zero-interest loan of money that I really cannot afford to be without.
Granted...it's really all my fault for believing the information found here to be true and acting in accordance with that concept. But...gee, thanks.
First, TT never pays your taxes. Rather, if the state permits this, it simply forwards your banking info to the State, who then pulls the payment itself. Per the Line 27 (Total Due) instructions, it does not appear that NC permits this.
Thanks.
I am aware of the logistical arrangement in terms of payment. Perhaps I should have worded things better.
Also, perhaps, TurboTax should not be soliciting financial and account information when it cannot do anything with it. (God only knows where THAT is now going to wind up).
Not only is it not a secure way of handling such matters...it is also VERY misleading. In view of TT's false promises...I had every reason to believe that accounts were settled with the State, just as they were with my Federal tax payment. It was only by mere chance that I stumbled upon a mention of the matter here in these forums. Without that.....I'd no doubt be receiving a nastygram from the State in the near future and been wondering what the hell was going on.
Now, one can say 'well...it's only a software package. TT can't keep track of EVERY state.' But....that is TT's job, part and parcel. Saying it is too stupid to do something right is NEVER an acceptable excuse for doing something wrong.
Intuit....are you listening?
TurboTax does indeed forward all payment information and requested debit dates. Some states are behind in making the debit date. If your debit date has passed, you may want to contact the state. Call 1-877-252-3252 or see Payment Options - NCDOR for more options.
See also NC direct debit.
Well now....isn't that great. Because of what everyone else has been telling me, I went to the NC State website and paid through that.
Now you're telling me that the payment I arranged through TurboTax may actually ALSO go through. It would seem that now I may be in even worse straits than I thought.
I've used TT for over 20 years.....back when it was MacInTax and before. Sounds like it's time to find another software package until you guys can get your ducks in a row. There's no excuse for all this.
I was the only employee to respond. I am sorry that you were not able to reach one of us sooner. On the bright side, the state should check and see that you have already paid so as to not debit the account. To be safe, I recommend you contact an agent at 1-877-252-3252.
Only a couple years ago, NC started allowing you to make the D.Debit arrangement with your E-filed tax return. Many states still require separate payment outside of the tax software submission
IF you entered that information ,and the date to Debit while filing, then that information DID transmit to the state. One problem some people have is that they set up a Federal debit information, and "assume" it is set up the same way for their state too....and it is not. They have to both be set up separately during the filing process.

IF, you printed/saved a PDF file copy of your Federal and NC tax returns at the time you e-filed, there is an "Electronic Filing Instructions" sheet for each which shows the requested D.Debit date, and account numbers that were transmitted to the IRS & NC tax departments.....but as noted, it can take a few extra days (at certain times) for those debits to actually occur.

Oh, and as for ' I am sorry that you were not able to reach one of us sooner.' I tried to find a way to speak to someone about the matter. Every place in TTDlx I went to try to find such always ended me up here in these forums. And we have seen how great that's worked out.
In past iterations, TTDlx had (at the very least) a chat client. Some times there were actual telephone numbers Although, I'll admit that the only time I tried it I spent literally 4+ hours on hold waiting before finally giving up and hanging up.
If such access still exists in TTD, I was never able to find it.
So..yes... I am also sorry I wasn't able to reach someone sooner.
Eight weeks and still no resolution. The State still has over $2000 which never should have been paid all because of the negligence of TurboTax.
I need an address or a document for NC tax payment
If you printed a copy of your NC state return, you should have a form D-400V in the stack of forms. This is the payment voucher.
If you click on the Pay Individual Income Tax button, you can pay online. Or you can do it here.
Do you need a mailing address instead? Let us know.
Had a similar experience --- asked Turbo Tax to pay NC tax directly from my federal refund. Never heard if actually done, or not!! Refund was credited to my bank acct. mid=February. Accually included amount that was designated NC tax due!!! So, decided than rather than wait till NC tax was due, went ahead and sent a check, (ahead of due date).. Apparently more than "whoever" could contemplate how to handle this, check was cashed. Just now, on April 1, my bank account indicated a debit amount deducted from my acct. for the exact amount of NC taxes due! Long story made short - I have currently paid my NC taxes twice.! Wonder if anyone will eventually notice this double payment and send back some money??? (the life of internets, and no humans involved, I guess).
It WILL be refunded back……eventually.
Last year, when TurboTax lied to me and duped me into double-paying, the over-paid amount was refunded in August.
Having that much money (and it was a significant amount) in limbo for four months caused quite a hardship for me.
