NJ 1040 not calculating

For some reason, the NJ 1040 shows income on line 27.  It is not pulling anything into line 30 or below until a zero in line 50.   There is only between $1000-$2000 of income.  As a result, the program shows zero tax due.    Why aren't the calculations flowing down?  Is the first X of income in NJ not taxable?

No, NJ will tax every dollar of taxable income.  However, if your personal exemptions in lines 6-12 are more than the income on line 27 then there would be no taxable income and zero tax.

Having said that, normally there would be other lines calculated such as line 30 and lines 41, 42, 44 and 49 prior to line 50.  I recommend in the step-by-step mode revisiting the federal interview "Personal Info" and "Wages and Income" sections to verify entries there.

Next click through the NJ interview to verify the entries there specifically the "General Info" and "Adjustments" sections.

Thanks. Oddly enough, the program did the same thing last year.  I do have a non-resident NY return as well.  Maybe something in the program is messed up due to this.

If your tax is zero, that's what's important.
