New York Tax issue

My NYS AGI is $104,044 (married filing jointly) and my taxable income is $93,797. When I hand calculate my taxes owed I get $5,057 with my highest bracket being 5.85% which is an effective rate of 5.39%.

When TurboTax calculates my taxes owed it's giving me $5,093. Which seems to me means it's using the rate of 5.9% with and effective rate of 5.43%.

Why am I getting a $36 difference? It seems like a simple calculation, so what am I missing? I tried chatting but they said it depends on my AGI and that I am in the 5.85 bracket. If that is correct then why am I not getting the same amount? Is TurboTax using the wrong rate? Please help this is really bugging me!

Pretty difficult to tell without seeing what IT-201 line number you are getting $5093 showing on.

IF it's on line 46 of the IT-201, then perhaps the extra $36 taxes are coming in on line 45 .

Those extra taxes come in from Part 2  of the IT-201-ATT

I will double check but I believe the $5,093 is showing on line 39. Direct tax amount based on line 38 which is $93,797. Thank you for your comment. I was hoping I just made an error but I just can't seem to figure this out.

Are you filing a full-year resident return? The New York standard deduction for married is $16,050, so if your NY AGI is $104,044 then your taxable income would be $87,994 or less if you itemized deductions or dependents ($104,044 - $16,050).

The base tax rate on a  part-year or non-resident would be calculated on total income, though you would only pay tax ono the NY percentage of the base tax.

Thank you! Now I found my mistake. I had my Fed AGI jotted down and forgot I had State additions that bumped it up to  $111,847 for state AGI. Needed to look at the comp not the schedule. Found my $36 difference!
