I received Statement of Proposed Audit Change from the state of NY. It says that the unemployment received from 2021 was not reported as per the 1099-G that they received and taxes are owed on that money. I pulled up the state tax return from 2021 and I noticed that it shows the unemployment income reported under the federal column but not for the state of NY, so it does appear that the income was excluded. When I go back into Turbotax, everything appears to be filled out correctly, referencing the state of NY in numerous spots, and even stating the amount of NY taxes withheld on the unemployment income. I am trying to figure out if there was an error with Turbotax putting the amount on the tax return, or if the state of NY has it wrong. Any advice is appreciated.

The state is right, but it's not an error in TurboTax. When you did your New York nonresident tax return, the TurboTax interview asked you how much of the unemployment on your federal tax return was from a New York source. The amount in the New York column on your Form IT-203 is the amount you entered on the screen shown below. If the unemployment amount in the New York column is blank, you either entered zero or left it blank.
@rjs Thank you for the reply. That makes sense. The only problem is I cannot find that screen. I even inputted another separate 1099G unemployment payment to see where that screen shows up and I cannot seem to find it. I would just like to know for next time so that I am aware. I am using TurboTax Home and Business 2021. Thanks for your help.
