I am trying to my state taxes. I worked in Illinois, but I live in Indiana. I finished my federal, and started with my nonresident state of Illinois. I go completely through it, after finishing Illinois, I get a message that I need to do Indiana. After completing Indiana, I get a message stating: Important: Complete your nonresident return(s) first. I started with my nonresident first, so I don't know why I am receiving this message. I tried to delete both, and start over, and I am still getting this message.

TurboTax is giving you that message because you are entitled to a credit for Illinois tax paid on your Indiana return.
Try completing Illinois first again and then Indiana.
Thank you. I will try that!
Did that work for you? I'm having the same issue. Still says "Important: Complete your nonresident return(s) first" even though I've gone through it already.
It is best to report non-resident state returns prior to your Home state return. The information from the Non-Resident returns are needed to allow credits for taxes paid to other states.
However, if you are still getting an error message after completing that action, your computer may need to clear history and cookies.
