It's hard to say precisely, but you may pay less by living in New Jersey because you won't have to pay New York City income tax, which only hits NYC residents and can be quite pricey. Note, however, that by living in NJ and commuting to NY, you will have to file a nonresident return in NY and a resident return in NJ.  You will also have commuting costs, etc.

It's also possible that the NYS, NYC and/or NJ tax laws will change in 2017.

Your best option may be to purchase the 2016 TT download, and do various What if scenarios.
