I want to get renters rebate

It depends.

Your ability to claim the renter's credit depends upon which state you reside in and if they offer the credit.  The IRS does not have a renter's credit.

TurboTax will ask you questions as you prepare your return.  If you have indicated you rented in your state interview section, the program will determine if you qualify for a renter's credit and will generate the form as applicable.

Be aware any renter's credit is used to offset tax liabilities.  It is not refundable.

Rent deductions or credits

If you have additional questions, please comment with your state so we can assist you further.

To get to the Property Tax Credit, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click on State on the left-hand side.
  3. Click Continue next to Missouri.
  4. On the page You've Finished Your Missouri Return, click Start next to General Info
  5. Answer yes to the question Do you want to complete a property tax credit form?
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

The Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim gives credit to certain senior citizens and 100 percent disabled individuals for a portion of the real estate taxes or rent they have paid for the year. The credit is for a maximum of $750 for renters and $1,100 for owners who owned and occupied their home. The actual credit is based on the amount of real estate taxes or rent paid and total household income (taxable and nontaxable). If you rent from a facility that does not pay property taxes, you are not eligible for a Property Tax Credit.

Please see Missouri Property Tax Credit Qualification Chart for more information.
