To report the state sales tax for more than one state, follow these directions:
My wife and I worked in separate states till about the same time. We then moved to a third state where we live now. How do we get rid of the error? It's highlighting that date we arrived in the new state as the error and that is the date the DOES NOT overlap.
Add a location and re-enter the MI dates so it shows up at the bottom and then you can go back and delete the original MI entry.
Ok we did that. It kept adding 1/1/20 to the first row, so I moved everything up. Now shows 2 errors.
Understand. Enter your three states. MI first with ending date 12/31/2020. Then enter yours and spouse's other states with beginning date 1/1/2020 and don't overlap with MI start, but should end 1 day prior to MI start. Then enter MI again with ending 12/31/2020. Go all the way through to done with sales taxes. Then revisit and delete the first MI line and then done with sales taxes. The error should clear.
This needs to match what is entered in the "My Info" section for your dates in each state as well.

But the only parts that overlap are the two states that we lived in at the same time. MI starts after we left AZ and NV so there is no overlap there. I'm confused
The dates you end up with on the form should be the correct dates. TurboTax sometimes gets confused when entering more than two states on this form. You are entering everything and then reentering the first line you entered, a second time at the end and then going back and deleting the first line. That simply clears the error leaving you with the correct dates.
